No matter how careful we try to be, everyone drops their iPhone from time to time, and if you’re lucky you don’t end up with a broken iPhone screen. Usually, the consequences of a drop aren’t serious, but in some cases, screens get cracked or shattered. Some of these cracks are relatively minor cosmetic problems that don’t really affect whether you can use your device. Others, however, are so extensive that it becomes very hard to see the screen. That makes using the iPhone next to impossible.
If you’re facing a cracked screen that’s so damaged it’s hard to use your device, you have a number of options for repairing it. Furthermore, many would be less expensive than replacing the phone. If you’ve just broken your screen, or happen to do so in the future, then it pays to know what options you have open to you.
Option 1 – Apple
Unfortunately, even if your iPhone is still currently under the manufacturer’s warranty, there’s a problem. The standard warranty that comes with the iPhone will not cover accidental damage. This means a cracked screen isn’t something that can be fixed for free under the warranty. So, that can get expensive quickly. If you purchased the extended warranty, Apple charges a premium for accidental damage. That includes a screen replacement. They also restrict this service to twice per the device’s lifespan.
Option 2 – Independent Repair Shop
You should find a qualified repair technician. Look for one who is qualified to repair Apple products to replace the screen, using high quality, premium parts. It’s a good idea to use a shop that is experienced with iPhone repair and has a good reputation. An unskilled repairperson could cause additional damage to the body or interior electronics of your iPhone. That will cause more problems and could force you to buy a new phone. A qualified independent repair shop will have technicians with expert knowledge on iPhone screen replacement. That enables them to perform repairs quickly.
Option 3 – Do It Yourself
Is this broken iPhone screen something you can fix yourself? To be honest, it’s a longshot. You can usually find replacement screens on eBay and how-to repair videos on YouTube that make it look easy. However, in reality, it is extremely complicated, often involving the extraction of tiny, cracked shards of glass. For most users, the smarter move is to hire a pro to expertly handle the repair.
